What We Stand For

What we know for sure is that professionals don't need more courage to speak up and own their brilliance. They need better access to the courage they already have. That access comes through practice.

You deserve to courageously speak up at work

Here’s how it all started…

Risk Fitness Club officially launched in 2026, but the philosophy behind it was decades in the making.

Its creator, Candace Doby, spent most of her professional career as a marketing leader at one of the world’s most respected global food brands. Early in her leadership journey, she believed her most important job was to teach her team how to build data-informed marketing plans that drove traffic and sales.

She was wrong.

The plans, she quickly learned, weren’t the problem. Her team’s inability to communicate their ideas about those plans was.

Chipotle Award

Even when team members had strong ideas, many hesitated to share them. They worried about being judged or rejected or a victim of someone else taking credit for their work. As a result, valuable perspectives stayed in notebooks instead of making their way into team huddles.

That’s when Candace realized something that would shape the rest of her career.

The greatest barrier to her team’s potential wasn’t capability. It was courage.

College Track

So, Candace set out to create an environment where taking smart, worthwhile risks was expected. She gave her team something they had never had before: A place to practice.

They practiced giving and receiving feedback, advocating for ideas, asking difficult questions, and challenging one another with care.

Practicing in this way may have been newer for her team, but not for Candace. She had learned as a Division I track and field athlete that nothing improves without practice.

She brought that lesson into the workplace.

Over time, the more her team practiced communicating courageously, the more confidence they showed and potential they revealed.

The result? Her team became one of the highest-performing marketing teams in the company.

That experience changed the way Candace thought about leadership forever.

Courage is built through practice.

When Candace founded The Can-Do Company and began speaking to professionals around the world, she heard the same story over and over again.

Brilliant professionals were holding back brilliant ideas.

The new team member afraid to challenge tenured colleagues. The woman in tech who hesitated to take credit for her work to avoid being labeled “not a team player.” And, the seasoned administrative professional who stayed quiet because she didn’t want to come across as incompetent.

Candace began coaching these professionals using the same philosophy that transformed her team.

She called the approach Risk Fitness — the intentional practice of taking smart, worthwhile risks to build courage capacity. Every courageous conversation, difficult question, or act of self-advocacy became another Risk Rep. And with enough reps, people became RiskFit.

Then came a simple but powerful question.

If gyms exist to strengthen our physical muscles, why isn’t there one designed to strengthen our courage muscle?

Risk Fitness Club was the answer to that question.
